covet

Her name is Hedvig, and she's the author of The Northern Light.

I just spent the last two hours reading her old entries. I'm having a huge girl crush. It would be an understatement to say that I adore her style. She emanates a kind of je ne sais quoi that I'd love to imbibe someday. Her clothes consist of simple lines and basic colors... and the hair. Let's take a moment to appreciate how soft her hair looks. I've always admired soft-looking hair - nothing too stiff, just the perfect amount of volume, and you know by just looking at it that she smells great. I didn't mean that to sound creepy. Simply put, she's got the whole package for me. And even though I can't really imitate most of these looks, the concept and inspiration would suffice. Sometimes I forget how fun it is to dress-up, to experiment on what's already in my closet and find new ways to wear it. At this very moment, I really miss dressing up for work. Check out her blog for more personal style inspiration. I have resisted the temptation to reblog everything on her website (although this is an awful lot of pictures, to say the least. ha!).

of blacks, whites, nudes, and other neutrals

The key here is looking chic and effortless. The combination of all these pieces creates an ultra-sophisticated blank canvas. All you need are killer accessories: bright bags, colorful heels or flats, scarves, jewelry, and watch. You're good to go. Invest on classic wardrobe pieces: crisp white shirt, blue button downs, cashmere sweater, perfect-fitting black jeans, denims, black heels, black flats, nude boots, shirt dress, classic black carry-all, and red shoes.

There is a thin line though of becoming a bore when you combine all these together. So infuse some twist of your own, either a hairstyle or jewelry, to spice-up the overall look. Nothing beats the elegance of simple, classic pieces that look clean and fit well. You can even go from day to night by just changing your hairstyle, make-up, and shoes.

welcome!

"A year from now you will wish you have started today." - Karen Lamb

I am one of those twenty-somethings who are frantically searching for their place in the world. For the longest time now, I have planned to start a style blog. However, I've been so cautious not to create something that has been done before. In almost everything I do, I try to ask myself what has never been done? Unfortunately,  in an effort to be original, this has led to more inaction than I would have liked to. I'm not interested in posting pictures of myself, nor do I plan to post my shopping purchases. That is far from what I intend to do on this blog.

Part of my 2011 to-do list is to start a streamlined blog, something that would showcase my interests and my thoughts. I don't think I love fashion. Love is too strong a word. I cringe everytime I hear someone say "fashion" and "passion" in one sentence. The closest thing I can imagine is being inspired, and THIS does not only include fashion. I am inspired by film, tv shows, books, food, words, and travel. I've forced myself to want only one thing. But it seems like all these things pre-occupy my mind equally and simultaneously.

I am well aware of how saturated the internet has become. Among all the gazillion things I follow online, a few have stood out amongst all of them and inspired me to just go for it: Jeana Sohn, Dead Fleurette, The Simply Luxurious Life, and Lulu and Your Mom. Over the next few days, I'll try to come up with one post a day. I'm thinking slowly but surely, hoping everything will come into place. The only thing I know for sure is I want to start something now.
